"You two will have to share the last one," Cloud had said, after the larger rooms had been gracefully given to the girls. Cid had shaken his head, gnawing on his cig before spitting out a few choice words, but Vincent had barely reacted.
The room was small. The bed took up most of it. Vincent, his face as neutral as ever, looked down at it, and then at Cid.
"I'll sleep on the floor," he said. Cid grimaced. Well, the guy was a vampire, or whatever. The dead could sleep on the ground as well as in a coffin.
Still, it wasn't such a big deal, was it? Sometimes you just had to make do with what you had. They were two grown men sharing a shitty hotel room. So what?
Cid shrugged. "Nah. The team needs you in good shape, yeah? S'not like you're gonna take that much space anyway."
If Vincent was surprised, he didn't show. He didn't take off his cloak, either. Cid, too, kept his thoughts to himself.
In the morning, when Cid woke up lying halfway on Vincent's skinny chest, he could tell Vincent was pretending to be asleep, if only by the way the corners of his mouth kept twitching. It didn't mean anything. That bed was too goddamn small, for a start.
If, over breakfast, Cid barked out a couple of swearwords that made even Barret whince as soon as Yuffie perked up to ask him if he'd slept well, it also didn't have to mean anything. He was always grumpy in the morning. That was that.
And if he caught Vincent hiding a smirk behind his collar, well. At least it meant he wasn't going to give him away.
Not that there was anything to give away in the first place.
