Qui se ressemble s'assemble, as the Kalosians would say, yet for once, upon laying his eyes on the well-dressed man who he'd just been informed was the Galarian League chairman, Lysandre found that he couldn't fully agree.
It wasn't his choice of outfit, impeccable, bespoke, in exactly the right colors; nor his eagerness to talk and get to know everyone, the mark of a man looking to make connections; it wasn't even his garish golden wristwatch, the sort of outward signifiers of wealth that Lysandre thought beneath him.
No: it was the darkness in his gaze, betraying motives and worries that were far beyond the scope of a charity dinner; it was the curve of his smile, sharper than was needed to show sincerity; it was the wide-eyed enthusiasm of his entourage, too busy fawning over him to notice; above all, it was the prickling, disagreeable sensation of staring into a mirror you didn't want to see staring back.
